Mike Williams was named the new director of the San Bernardino County Department of Airports, effective April 14.

Chino Airport Expansion Discussed
Regional leaders are eyeing economic growth for Chino Airport in an effort to create thousands of new jobs and increased revenue for the region in the next 30 years. A future master plan for development at the airport may draw from options brought forward in a report released last August by San Bernardino County consultants.

Feds To Bill Chino Slaughterhouse At Least $67 Million For Massive Beef Recall
If the slaughterhouse can't pay, which is likely, taxpayers will pick up the bill. The federal government will bill a California slaughterhouse more than $67 million for expenses associated with the largest beef recall in U.S. history.

Chino Commercial Bancorp Q1 Net Earnings Down 77% While Division is Recognized For Premier Performance
Chino Commercial Bancorp, the parent company of Chino Commercial Bank, has reported net earnings of $41,471 for the first quarter of 2008, a 76.7% decrease, compared to net income of $177,783 for the first quarter of 2007.

Group Of Chino Valley Medical Center Nurses Files Papers To Unionize
Some nurses at Chino Valley Medical Center have expressed an interest in unionizing, citing the need to improve patient care through more patient time and increasing staffing. In order to unionize, the group of nurses filed paperwork last week with the National Labor Relations Board to hold an election.

Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod Promotes New Billboard Law
Senator Gloris Negreate Mcleod has recently authored Senate Bill 1310 that would break down regulatory barriers to help billboard owners convert their signs to the digital variety. Opponents wrote to the San Francisco Gate Newspaper to fight the proposal.

Chino Hills City Council Takes Neutral Position on Tax Reduction
The Chino Hills City Council voted Tuesday night to take a neutral position on the ordinance until more information was available on which cities would be supporting or opposing it, said the city's finance director, Judy Lancaster.

Ayala High School Football Takes Nike SPARQ Team Challenge Training
As we met the football team from Ayala High School at the picturesque, Chino Hills Community Park across from their school, we knew that the Nike SPARQ Team Challenge’s West truck was in for a good day. All 88 kids on hand were all really polite, respectful and happy to have SPARQ at their school to test their metal. Second year Head Coach, Tom Inglima has this to say about the event. "Having you guys come out to our school makes these kids feel like they are making progress and that they are being recognized for their hard work."

Students from Townsend Jr. High and Oak Ridge Elementary Win Science Competition
Twenty-two students from San Bernardino County schools advanced to the 57th annual California State Science Fair after receiving top honors at the 2008 Inland Area Science and Engineering Fair at the National Orange Show on April 16. At the state science fair to be held on May 19-20 in Los Angeles, more than 1,000 students in grades 6-12 from 350 schools across the state will compete for awards totaling more than $50,000.
