27% Of IE Mosquitos Test Positive For West Nile Virus
40% of birds tested are positive for virus. Mosquito and Vector Control District Warns Residents: West Nile Virus Risk Highest in Recent Years. The West Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District is seeing the highest increase in West Nile virus (WNv) since 2004, making the chance of human infection by West Nile virus-infected mosquitoes even more threatening. The District's vector ecology lab has seen a marked increase of mosquito populations, many of which are shown to be carrying West Nile virus. During the past two weeks alone, 27% mosquito collections (individual mosquitoes grouped into batches of 5-50) were found carrying the deadly virus. Dead bird reports are also soaring. The District has also had an overwhelming number of dead birds reported to date this year...

Canyon Crest: Open Space Or Opportunity?
Owners want to develop; activists want to preserve 'one of the last free spaces' in Orange County To some, it's a place for wildlife to flourish. To others, it's a spot to build estate-style homes with a great view. To all, it's called Canyon Crest. And while the two sides have been butting heads since 1986, controversy about the undeveloped site is likely to become more intense September 16 at the next Brea City Council study session, where the council will discuss what to do with what activists are calling "one of the last few unprotected open spaces in Orange County."

Chino Hills Declares Stage II Water Alert

Chino Shooting Park Offers Bit Of Olympics '84
Olympics spark some nostalgia of Chino shooting range. Dan McDonough, of Newport Beach, was one of a billion or more people who watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. McDonough responded to the parade of nations and the lighting of the torch by going to the Prado Olympic Shooting Park in Chino to shoot skeet Saturday. The 44-acre park is where the shooting events of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics were held.

A Foreclosure Rescue
Federal legislation lauded, but will it help in time? A bill regarded as the most substantial housing legislation in decades has been signed by President Bush, giving hope for recovery from the foreclosure crisis that has gripped the Inland Empire. While some say any help is welcome, it remains to be seen whether the measure aimed at helping 400,000 homeowners is too little, too late.

Would Clinton Have Won if Edwards Came Clean Sooner?
Former Clinton Aide Says Yes. ABC News reported today that a former aide to the Clinton campaign, Howard Wolfson, stated that if John Edwards would have confessed to his affair earlier, that Clinton would have won the Democratic nomination. I think he might be right. I love watching politics. Like the recent movie, Swing Vote, the fate of candidates and even the fate of our nation often lies in these odd details.

Promoting Communism in Our Schools?
Bill passes CA legislature; Only Gov. Schwarzenegger can stop it. The Civic Center Act requires a school district to grant the use of school property, when an alternative location is not available, to nonprofit organizations, clubs or associations organized to promote youth and school activities. But the law also states that the property may not be used by anyone intent on overthrowing the government. SB 1322, a Bill that has already been passed by our legislature and that we hope will be vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger, would delete the requirement that an individual or organization wanting to use the school property is not a Communist...
