Sandra’s Mexican Restaurant ~ A Family Tradition

sandyWe recently had a chat with Nicholl Gardea, manager of Sandra’s Mexican Restaurant at their new location, 14670 Pipeline Avenue in Chino Hills.

Nicholl grew up in Chino Hills, graduating from Ayala High School in 2003. As young as she is, you can tell that she has a wealth of experience working with her brother and her parents running this very successful Chino Hills establishment. The restaurant is owned by Chino Hills residents Oscar and Sandra Gardea and operated along with two of their four children, Nicholl and Julio.

Before opening Sandra’s Mexican Restaurant in September, 2003, Nicholl’s mother loved to cook. She remembered all the delicious recipes that her father-in-law, who also loved cooking, taught her. Sandra operated a day care center in her home and in her spare time, did catering. Oscar was involved in the real estate business. When they heard of a vacancy in the Chino Hills Marketplace, they decided to fulfill a long time dream of opening their own restaurant. The restaurant did well from the beginning and attracted a regular following who came back repeatedly.

Sandra’s specializes in every kind of Mexican food. Appetizers include “Sandra’s Sampler”, a combo platter that includes quesadillas, flautas, taquitos, refried beans, chips, and chile verde; all topped with fresh guacamole and sour creme. It makes you hungry just to think of it.

The menu has a full assortment of soups and salads, meat, fish, and chicken made in all the traditional Mexican dishes you can think of; too much to tell! On Saturdays and Sundays, they are also open for breakfast.

Specials abound all week long…

Monday is for Margaritas. $0.99 Cents and fruit flavored drinks only $1.49.

Tuesday of course, is “Taco Tuesday”, a California tradition. Hard tacos are $0.99 Cents (must purchase a bar drink).

Wednesday has become their Karaoke Night with $2.00 bottled beers and $0.99 Cent fish tacos.

On Thursdays they offer soft tacos with carne asada or chicken (also with a bar drink)

And Happy Hour is every evening from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM – $1.00 off of beer, wine, and well drinks.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are Happy Hour all night and on Friday and Saturday evenings, the restaurant stays open till 10:00 PM.

Families can enjoy breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays as they open at 8:00 AM on the weekends (11:00 AM during the week). Right now on Sundays, Sandra’s offers a fantastic Champagne brunch from 8:30 AM till 2:00 PM; only $12.95 for a very tasty buffet. On Monday through Friday, their lunch buffet is only $7.95 and includes a drink. Sandra’s accepts all major credit cards.

This restaurant is truly a family affair. We’ve eaten breakfast there on Sundays and it is quite common for Mr. Gardea to come by the table and chat for a bit. The family attends St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Chino Hills.

What many people don’t know about Sandra’s is that they also have a reasonably sized banquet room for parties. If customers buy food, there is no charge for the room and it could comfortably seat up to 40 people.

Stop by sometime and give them a try!
