National Night Out
National Night Out

Tuesday was National Night Out, a unique crime and drug prevention event that has been held now for 25 years.

Bonnie Michaels, of the City of Chino Hills, reported that there were 29+ events held in Chino Hills. We did one in our neighborhood and I think it was worthwhile.

A few weeks ago, I noticed an article about the National Night Out and mentioned it to my wife. I was surprised to hear that she was interested in doing the event. We didn't talk about it much but as the date drew closer she reminded me of it.

"What did i get myself into?" I thought.

Anyway on Sunday and Monday we printed and passed out flyers to each of the homes in our neighborhood. We decided that since my wife loves baking, we would keep it simple and just offer coffee and cookies. People's reactions were very encouraging and about 25 people actually showed up between 7:00 and 9:00 PM.

We also got visits from Ed Graham and a few police officers who handed out pencils, balloons, and free safety advice. We will definitely do this again. We met about 10 families that we'd never met in our neighborhood and also had a chance to get together with those who we've known but often take for granted. I would encourage every neighborhood in Chino Hills to take advantage of this nice idea next year.
