Writer shares some local history.

The legendary Robin Hoodish bandit of the Gold Rush era, Joaquin Murieta, was said to have come to Rincon south of Chino on the Santa Ana River for food while eluding posses trying to dangle him from the end of a rope.

The story says Murieta would scatter gold coins in the front yard of relatives living in the community more than a century ago. Later, food would be delivered to him at a safe location.

Another story says he spent three days hiding in one Rincon home. His host, a member of the "Sonoratown" community (that's 1800s talk for "Latinos"), later had a loaf of bread stuffed with $20 gold pieces tossed onto his doorway in appreciation.
