Great place and great kids.

I have a goal of visiting and getting some pictures of all our great city parks. In addition to being right behind the Chino Hills State Park and having a ton of open space, Chino Hills has almost 40 dedicated city parks and recreational facilities. Some of them are specialized like the McCoy Equestrian Center and Big League Dreams.

Recently I visited the Chino Hills Skate Park located in Fairfield Ranch right off the 71 Freeway. There were about 15 kids skating and riding their bmx bikes. After looking around for a while, I asked them if they would mind me taking some pictures for this story. I must admit that I was impressed by their manners and their courtesy. They were having fun at an extreme sport but they were also very respectful to me. I'm not the usual customer over there.

Two of the boys, Angel and Brad, were anxious to show me their tricks and they were pretty good, getting air and landing in one piece. I also ran into a young photographer named Juan Ayala, who was kind enough to email me some photos that he took.

The skate park is great. I wish I had something like this around when I was a kid. It has stairs, several ramps, rectangles, and blocks, a few rails, and a series of steep curved inclines (kind of like the side of a large curvy pool). It worked well for bike riders as well as skate boarders.

I think that the park has been a great asset in Chino Hills and gives the kids a place to go, but I must admit there were only a few of them actually wearing helmets. These were some really nice kids, but I left them with a warning to "wear helmets". Come on boys, the skate park doesn't have wheel chair access. I'd hate to see any of you get hurt.

Hours:

The Chino Hills Skate Park is open from 7:00 AM until dusk and entrance is free to the public.

Where is the Skate Park Located?

The address is 16333 Fairfield Ranch Road in Chino Hills.

How To Get to the Skate Park

From Central Avenue just east of the 71 Freeway, go south on Fairfield Ranch Road. Pass the Big League Dreams Sports Park and the Skate Park will be on the left side.
