Result of retirements / promotions

CHINO - At a time of new leadership and transition in the Police Department, the city is looking to hire eight police officers.

Candidates that are being looked at to fill the openings are officers who would be making a lateral career move as well as police academy graduates and recruits.

The openings are the result of a spate of retirements and promotions.

"We've been pretty active in recruiting and, right now, we've been getting a lot of opportunities to hire from different municipalities," Mayor Dennis Yates said.

The candidates will undergo a rigorous background screening process, officials said.

This includes testing candidates for physical agility and psychological resiliency as well as making sure they have a strong work ethic and a commitment to community-oriented policing.
