Chino Hills High School hosted a Winter Guard Association of Southern California contest on April 12th. Over 60 school teams from all over Southern California participated. Critiques are offered by judges who review each team's performance and who prepare tapes to help teams to understand the scoring system. Scholarships and service awards are to be given later this year to student members of units competing at the championships.
Chino Hills High School has an avid music program. Their marching band and color guard won second place overall and first place in percussion at the Western Band Association (WBA) Grand Championships in Monterey Park, 2007.
The WGASC is a youth organization, which cultivates personal growth through competitive performance opportunities in an organized forum that promotes self-esteem, education and freedom of creativity.
They are governed by the membership and elected Board of Directors and financed through membership fees, championship registrations, ticket sales, video sales, souvenir merchandise sales and the generosity of sponsors, benefactors and grants. Their prime objectives are stated as follows...
- Provide high standards and values in competition.
- Provide quality adjudication and rules for competition.
- Provide education to all Participants, Performers, Instructors and Adjudicators.
- Provide leadership and support services to aid in the growth of the activity.
