Dear Andrea,
It is absolutely okay to give a man flowers. I would NOT suggest roses though. Too expensive around Valentine's Day and not going to be good quality because EVERYONE else on the planet is giving them. Seriously,have you seen the average bunch of roses on the 17th of February? Half black and looking wilted as ever. So there's 75 bucks down the drain. You know how much that can get you at Yard House happy hour?
Besides the obvious expense of roses, if you have not been dating long, a gift of roses might scream to him, "I want to have your baby...when are you going to marry me?!" That scenerio will have him heading for the door.
Why not send him irises in a cool pot or an exotic flowering plant like an orchid? An attached line of poetry from Shakespeare makes for a more personal and impressive card if you can find a quote that fits in with an aspect of your relationship or something you value about him. Have the best Valentine's day ever!
