On Thursday morning, what started out as a routine brush clearing escalated into a serious emergency involving over 12 police and fire emergency vehicles from Chino, Chino Hills, and Ontario.
City workers were clearing brush on a hillside in Butterfield Ranch off of Wildflower Avenue as a precautionary measure to prevent fires. According Ryan Dacko of the Chino Valley Independent Fire District, some of the city's equipment struck a rock and ignited a brush fire. The CVIFD quickly responded and extinguished the fire but while approaching the top of a hill, one of their water units toppled over sideways on a steep enbankment.
Several residents who live on the Hummingbird Way watched as police and firemen tried to decide how to get the truck down. Half full of water, the truck lied precariously on its side above a boat, cars, and several homes.
Lina Diaz, a resident on the cul de sac stated, "I was just coming home from picking my sons up from school and this is what we came home to." Police cordoned off the entire area as residents moved their cars out of emergency workers ways and into safer locations.
Some residents were concerned that if the truck had gone into a barrel roll that it would have taken out one or two houses at the bottom of the hill.
