In its own way, the development in Chino Hills has made the city as beautiful as nature.

I recently took a trip to city hall in Chino Hills and while driving on Grand Avenue, the beauty of the surrounding community took me by surprise. It's not that I haven't noticed how beautiful our community is before. It was the realization that the people who have moved into Chino Hills have beautified, and in my opinion, greatly improved the beauty and nature of the landscape.

I'm somewhat of a conservationist. I don't like to see natural habitat taken away from the animals and wildlife. But I also think that we too often underestimate the value and beauty that people can bring to nature.

On the right week, in the right season, a drive down the southern portion of the 71 freeway can be breathtaking. During the winter, the hills can be lush and green and quite beautiful against the backdrop of a clear blue sky. Unfortunately, those views only occur when we've had a good rainy season and when the sky is clear. Those kinds of days are too far and few between. Most often, the hills are quite barren looking and grey. Let's face it; we live in a desert.

However, as our neighborhoods are maturing, I am noticing that the trees are growing higher than the homes and are much more plentiful than would have occurred in nature around here. All these new trees help to oxygenate our air and reduce pollution and they probably wouldn't be here if we didn't move in.

These were comforting thoughts to me. It reminded me that we are a part of nature and that in our own way, we too help to improve and beautify our surroundings. The people of Chino Hills are turning this desert into a beautiful oasis by adding water, trees, and landscapes.
