CHINO - Inmate Sheila St. Cloud knew that just nagging her daughter to stay in school would not work. A high school dropout herself, she had to set an example, even from behind the bars.

On Wednesday, bright-eyed Reina, 9, watched her mom walk off the stage with a diploma in tow.

"I did it to show her that education is important," she said.

St. Cloud and 85 other inmates at the California Institution for Women received their GED certificates from El Prado Adult School - largest graduating class in prison's history. Amid cheers from friends and family members, inmates moved their tassels from left to the right.
