Subsurface fissures put area in line for peril.
Last week's earthquake, which rattled nerves as well as the region, likely originated near the intersection of two major faults and one smaller one, experts said.
The little-known crease, called the Peralta Hills Fault, begins just south of the Whittier and Chino faults, said James Dolan, a USC earth-science professor.
