Although I'm not a big advocate of highway billboards and I'm happy that Southern California governments have practiced some restraint in the proliferation of freeway billboards, I don't think it's all that bad an idea. I'd much rather see a changing message than the same old frayed and loose-edged paper billboards we see today.

I also hope that this would bring down the cost of advertising for local businesses due to the ability to quickly change and/or share the messages. It seems to me that it is safer for employees to sit at a desk and program a new billboard than climb ladders with huge posters and squeegees.

Finally, these billboards could be utilized for quick emergency notices in the event of catastrophe.
