CHINO - Some of the 170 teachers who received layoff notices in the Chino Valley Unified School District in May have been asked to return to work this fall.

The school board approved the district's rescinding of up to 63 elementary school teacher layoffs and up to nine secondary teachers.

"The staff has been working on compiling enrollment projections, (teacher) intent to return notices, board actions, including the closure of three elementary school, and the elimination of class size reductions in grades K-3, to determine the district's staffing needs at the schools for the upcoming year," said district spokeswoman Julie Gobin.
