CHINO - Students who attend Ayala, Don Lugo, Chino, Chino Hills, Montclair and Ontario Christian High Schools are invited to participate in two annual contests sponsored by Rotary International's Rancho del Chino Rotary District 5300.
The George R. Hensel Ethics Essay Contest is designed to challenge high school students to analyze ethical issues and concerns confronting them in today's complex world. The contest provides an opportunity for students to win scholarships and express their views on ethics. Scholarships will be awarded at the Rotary District 5300 level - $3,000.00 for the first place winner and $500.00 for each of the three runner-up winners. Essays are due January 31, 2008 and may be submitted to Mr. Preston Carr at Don Lugo High School, 13400 Pipeline Avenue, Chino, CA 91710.
Applications are also being taken for the Dan Stover Music Contest. The contest is open to high school seniors planning to go onto college and continue their music study. Students will perform, with a musical instrument, for eight minutes before a panel of judges. Scholarships will be awarded at the Rotary District 5300 level in an amount up to $4,000.00 for first place and up to $1,000.00 for three finalists. The deadline to submit an application is January 31, 2008. The contest will take place on February 13, 2008 at the Chino Community Building, 5443 B Street, Chino, CA 91710.
