The layoffs will save the district about $7 million.
Another $2.7 million could be saved if the board decides to not renew contracts with temporary teachers.

Over 60 schools compete
Chino Hills High School hosted a Winter Guard Association of Southern California contest on April 12th. Over 60 school teams from all over Southern California participated. Critiques are offered by judges who review each team's performance and who prepare tapes to help teams to understand the scoring system. Scholarships and service awards are to be given later this year to student members of units competing at the championships.

Cause is still under investigation but may be construction related
The newly opened Chino campus was red hot when a construction fire broke out at the Community Building at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31. The Oaks entrance was temporarily closed to students but has since reopened.
Nervously watching the fire, student Hillary Dicksion hoped the fire department would arrive quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby Main Building. The main building was not damaged.

Deadline for local Seniors to apply is May seventh.
Soroptimist International of the Chino Valley is inviting Seniors from six Chino Valley Unified School District high schools to apply for $500.00 scholarships. The application deadline is May 7.

The Chino Valley Unified School District held informational meetings Thursday night to answer questions and discuss a new program where trained detection dogs will conduct inspections of Ayala, Buena Vista, Chino, Chino Hills and Don Lugo High Schools as well as Canyon Hills, Magnolia, Ramona, Townsend and Woodcrest Junior High Schools.
